USDA-ARS Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory -The USDA-ARS Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory (PPRL) is a facility focused on the investigation of plants poisonous to livestock. The 26,700 sq. ft., $5 million building consists of laboratory, office, and public and staff support spaces. The types of laboratories include animal and veterinary, reproduction toxicology, histology, chemistry, radioisotope and plant physiology.

Total Building Commissioning provided commissioning services that covered the startup and functional testing phases of the project.

TBC commissioned the following systems and their related subsystems:

• HVAC Systems - Air handling units, VAV terminals, pumps, chiller, cooling tower, domestic water heater, unit heaters, exhaust fans (hoods & snorkels), emergency generator monitoring panel, and Web interface.
• Electrical Systems - Underground electrical work, emergency/standby engine-generator set, variable frequency drives, pad mounted transformers, pad mounted SF6 insulated interrupter switches, automatic transfer switches, lighting systems, and interior distribution systems
• Piping Systems - Chilled water, heating water, condenser water, steam & condensate water, domestic & industrial hot/cold water, natural gas, lab compressed air, lab vacuum, pure water, and sanitary waste vent
• ATC & Automation System - HVAC system controls • Audio/Visual System
• Hydraulic Elevator
• Interior Fire Detection & Alarm System
• Vacuum and Compressed Air Systems
• Wastewater Acid Neutralization System
• Security CCTV
